Father and son unite for marathon
Spencer Roberts
Spencer was given special permission to join the race
More than 1,700 runners have taken part in this year's Beachy Head Marathon.

The organisers of the event gave participant Paul Roberts special permission to run with his son Spencer for the last 50 metres (164 ft).

Three-year-old Spencer suffers from a rare form of cancer and his dad ran the marathon to raise funds for charity.

Mr Roberts drew extra cheers from the spectators when he lifted his son over the finish line at St Bedes School in Eastbourne, Sussex.

Eastbourne borough councillor Steve Wallis said: "The Beachy Head Marathon always sees some really tough challenges but this one is especially moving."

The 26-mile route takes in scenery at Cuckmere Haven, as well as the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs and the Long Man of Wilmington, a figure cut into the side of Windover Hill.
