The Beachy Head Marathon celebrates its 25th event in 2006
Money raised at the 2005 Beachy Head Marathon is set to go to the voluntary organisations which helped out.

The marathon - which starts and finishes in Eastbourne in East Sussex - saw around 1,500 runners, joggers and walkers taking part on 29 October.

More than 3,000 was donated and the money will be split between groups like St John Ambulance, Beachy Head Ramblers and the Sussex Police Volunteer Cadets.

Hailsham Rotary Club said its share would be going to Ethiopia.

The FARM-Africa charity will help the rotary club buy a herd of goats, at 27 each, for a village in the country.

Deputy Mayor of Eastbourne Councillor Colin Belsey will present cheques to the volunteer groups on Tuesday.

The 2006 Beachy Head Marathon is scheduled for 28 October.

The 26-mile route takes in scenery at Cuckmere Haven, as well as the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs and the Long Man of Wilmington, a figure cut into the side of Windover Hill.
