Susie Hewer is taking a big ball of wool to the London Marathon |
Among the thousands of people running the London Marathon in wacky costumes, or taking strange items with them, will be a Sussex woman knitting a scarf. Susie Hewer, from Ewhurst Green, near Robertsbridge, is raising money for the Alzheimer's Research Trust.
Her participation is in memory of her mother Peggy, a dementia sufferer who died two years ago.
Ms Hewer hopes to set a first world record for "longest scarf knitted while running a marathon".
She said: "I'm going to be using large-sized needles and wearing a little apron so I can carry my yarn with me."
Ms Hewer will have to complete the 26-mile marathon with her knitting intact in order to claim a world record on Sunday.
Rebecca Wood, from the Alzheimer's Research Trust, said: "Susie's a great person. It's a novel idea and we were pretty amazed."
