'Nervous' Olympic sailor marries

Adam Gosling and Sarah Webb
Sarah Webb said marrying was more nerve-wracking than competing

An Olympic double-gold medallist has celebrated after getting married.

Sarah Webb, one of the celebrated "Three Blondes in a Boat", married Adam Gosling at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Mayfair, London.

Ms Webb, who wore a dress designed by Amanda Wakely said: "I was more nervous than at any time competing in an Olympic final."

Ms Webb, of Weybridge, Surrey, won gold medals in the Yngling sailing class at both the Athens and Beijing Olympics.

After the reception at The State Apartments at St James's Palace, she said: "The emotion really hit me walking down the aisle at the church but I held it together. We had a wonderful day."

The 32-year-old was appointed OBE in this year's New Year Honours.

In 2004 Ms Webb won gold with Sarah Ayton and Shirley Robertson, while in 2008 Pippa Wilson replaced Robertson.

In October 2008, Sarah Ayton married Olympic windsurfer Nick Dempsey after the pair had agreed their married name would be that of whoever won a gold.

However, the sailing champion decided not to call in the bet and took Dempsey's surname.
