True stories from victims of domestic violence are featured on a new DVD launched by a council in Suffolk.

Survivors' Stories presents the reality of domestic violence and was produced by Babergh District Council and the local domestic violence forum.

The DVD, designed to be a training, educational and awareness-raising tool, will now be rolled out across the UK.

The launch coincides with a national day to raise the awareness of domestic violence and attacks against women.

Ann Scott, Babergh's community safety officer, said: "We hope by raising awareness more victims will feel able to break out of the destructive cycle of domestic violence.

"It can also help the people who work with victims to be better equipped to identify domestic violence and offer the support needed."

Cathy Press, project leader of Babergh Domestic Violence and Abuse Forum, said: "Every single person who took part wanted to tell their story in the hope that it might help just one other person.

"The interviews are frank, moving accounts of real people, real stories and real lives.

"This is an exciting project and the launch promises to be new and innovative in its approach - particularly with the virtual launch."
