Top marks for county despite cuts
Suffolk County Council
Suffolk County Council has seen spending cuts
Suffolk County Council has gained the top four-star rating from the Audit Commission in its Comprehensive Performance Assessment for 2006.

This rating means the Commission believes the council is performing strongly and puts it in the top third of all authorities in England.

The county council also continues to be rated as "improving well".

The auditor said social care for adults remained good despite cutbacks as part of a 24m budget reduction.

Jeremy Pembroke, leader of Suffolk County Council, said: "We are pleased that the hard work of everyone in delivering high quality, value-for-money services for the people of Suffolk has been recognised by the Audit Commission.

"Even though we continue to face a number of difficult challenges around our budgets, this shows that we can still make a difference."
