Scheme could save councils 150m
Suffolk County Council
Suffolk County Council hopes to integrate some of its services
A scheme to integrate council services across Suffolk and save up to 150m has been unveiled.

Suffolk County Council and six district councils in the county are applying to the government to share services such as human resources and IT.

The Pathfinder bid aims to deliver cheaper and better services for taxpayers across Suffolk.

Other councils in the bid are Babergh, Mid Suffolk, Forest Heath, Suffolk Coastal, St Edmundsbury and Waveney.

The Pathfinder bid is due to be ratified at council meetings across Suffolk before being delivered to central government later this month.

The shake-up follows the publication of the Local Government White paper last Autumn giving all local councils the chance to re-shape local government to fit their local needs.

The Suffolk Pathfinder bid proposes simplifying structures, making it easier for local communities to shape services, pooling resources like computer systems and joining with commercial and voluntary partners to make local government more effective.

Leader of Suffolk County Council Jeremy Pembroke said: "Our vision is a model for modern 21st Century government that will give power back to our communities."

He said it was "a real opportunity" for people to get involved and shape the way their services are delivered.
