Underage drinkers doctor licences
Drinks generic
Youngsters doctor driving licences used as IDs to get drinks in pubs
A clampdown on young drinkers has found that under 18s are doctoring driving licences to get served in pubs.

Police and landlords trying to stamp out underage drinking in Ipswich have caught youngsters with driving licences altered to make them appear older.

Some bar staff have also seized licences that have been tampered with.

Suffolk police are warning pubs and clubs they need to be more vigilant and venues failing to check the true ages of younger customers face prosecution.

Young people are not allowed to buy a drink in a pub until they are 18 but can apply for a driving licence at 16.

Suffolk police are on to the scam and say doctored licences will be confiscated.

Sgt Neil Boast says young people should think of the consequences.

"They are often not mature enough to deal with excessive drinking and some become involved in alcohol related violence," he said.
