50mph road speed scheme to stay
50mph sign on the A140
The number of casualties on the road has halved
A trial of 50mph speed limits on part of the A140 which links Ipswich and Norwich, looks set to stay, despite strong opposition.

At a Suffolk County Council's rights of way committee meeting on Thursday, councillors recommended keeping the limit on the road from Ipswich to Diss.

But the limit had been rejected by 79% of the 348 people who responded to a public consultation.

The trial speed limits were first introduced in September 2003.
