Town's new war memorial unveiled

A new war memorial has been unveiled in one of Stoke-on-Trent's towns.

Residents, historians and veterans spent 12 years collecting more than 1,000 names of Tunstall people who died in World Wars I and II.

The memorial was unveiled in the town centre during a ceremony on Saturday afternoon.

Local historian Ray Cope said the research may have taken a long time but it was very important to recognise those who had been killed.

He said: "The names on there mean a lot to the relatives and I think it's fantastic to hear some of the magic stories that I have come across."

The new memorial also features a plaque to remember those who died in later conflicts.
