New-look road officially opened
A road which has been given a 40m upgrade has been officially opened by the Secretary of State for Transport.

Douglas Alexander unveiled a plaque commemorating the new-look A500 going through Stoke-on-Trent, which has taken two-and-a-half years to complete.

Stoke Road and City Road roundabouts have been replaced with underpasses - something which should have happened when it was built 30 years ago.

The underpasses were included in the original project but money ran out.

The roadworks have still not finished entirely. Work is taking place on some of the slip roads and the nearby A50.
