A number of home-made weapons have been handed to police in Staffordshire during a five-week knife amnesty. Nails soldered onto a metal bar and highly sharpened blades feature among those dropped into police stations.
"These weapons were only made for the purpose of fear and intimidation with the potential of inflicting serious injury, even death," said a spokesman.
Some 1,420 knives and other weapons have been handed over to police during the first four weeks of the amnesty.
People can hand in weapons at police stations and other sites until 30 June.
