Library forced to close for week
A library has been forced to close down for a week after an unexpected problem with ongoing building works.

Burton Library closed on Friday and will stay closed until next Friday, despite the start of the Easter holidays for schoolchildren.

Staffordshire County Council said air cooling equipment will make the building more comfortable.

The work was to have been carried out during evenings but the disruption and mess means the library will be closed.

'Long-term benefits'

A mobile library will be in place from Saturday as a temporary measure.

Hilary Jackson, from Staffordshire Library and Information Service, said: "We regret having to take this action. However we believe it is essential and will help deliver great long-term benefits for library users.

"The equipment has been installed due to numerous comments from the public in the past about how hot the library can be, especially in summer months.

"We appreciate the timing is unfortunate because of school holidays, but put into context this will greatly improve the environment for future users."
