Ms Barber was the first from the group to be prescribed the drug |
People who want the drug Herceptin to be available on the NHS for those in the early stages of breast cancer have taken their campaign to the streets. A group set up in Staffordshire in the summer to highlight the issue marched through Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, on Saturday afternoon.
Four women from the group have found out in the last week that their primary care trusts will provide treatment.
The demonstration was peaceful as the campaigners had promised.
North Stoke Primary Care Trust (PCT) reversed its decision on Wednesday over Elaine Barber, from Abbey Hulton.
On Thursday the PCT told Alison Poole, from Bagnall, and Mary Potts, of Packmoor, that they would be given the drug.
Newcastle-under-Lyme PCT also said Melanie Waite, from Clayton, can have the treatment.
She said: "I think it's gone really well with people showing us their support.
"We want to get the treatment for the other ladies (in the group) and everybody in the country.
"We thought it would be a much more sombre mood but we've got a big celebration. It's just tinged with a little sadness that other ladies haven't got it yet."
