Ms Barber is getting the drug due to "exceptional circumstances" |
Three more women from Staffordshire are being given the breast cancer drug Herceptin on the NHS. North Stoke Primary Care Trust (PCT) reversed its decision on Wednesday over Elaine Barber, from Abbey Hulton.
Now Alison Poole, from Bagnall, and Mary Potts, of Packmoor, whose appeals were to be heard by the PCT next week, have been told they will get the drug.
Newcastle-under-Lyme PCT has said Melanie Waite, from Clayton, can also have the treatment.
'Difficult choices'
All four women are part of a campaign group which was set up in Staffordshire in the summer to highlight the issue.
Ms Barber is being prescribed the drug by the PCT because of her "exceptional circumstances".
The mother-of-four had previously had her appeal turned down on Monday, when the trust said it was not convinced of the drug's safety or cost-effectiveness.
The PCT said on Wednesday that its original decision was not based on the cost of the product, but the trust always faced "difficult choices about which services represent the best use of finite resources."
The campaigners have been fighting for the drug to be given on the NHS to people in the early stages of breast cancer.
