19-day-old baby contracts MRSA
A baby aged just 19 days old became infected with MRSA at Stoke-on-Trent's main hospital, it has emerged.

The case is one of three in the University Hospital of North Staffordshire's neo-natal unit in the past five years.

Dr Pat Chipping, from the hospital, said it is almost impossible to prevent the risk of infection.

She added: "We are extremely careful in neo-natal and extremely careful everywhere else as well."

Dr Chipping went on: "In any environment tiny babies are liable to catch infections."
