Shoplifter barred from town stores
A court's decision to ban a prolific shoplifter from a Staffordshire town centre's shops has been welcomed by police.

Emma Brown, 20, from Tamworth, was served with an Antisocial Behaviour Order (Asbo) by magistrates in Burton-on-Trent on Monday.

Staffordshire Police said it prevents Brown from entering any shops in Tamworth town centre and specifically bars her from visiting the town's Ventura Retail Park.

Magistrates agreed to impose the order after hearing she had been convicted of shoplifting, a police statement said.

Security problems

The action was requested by police and supported by Tamworth Borough Council.

"The order will prevent this individual from visiting any retail outlet in Tamworth town centre as well as Ventura Park," said Sergeant Ian Coxhead.

"It is welcome because she was creating major security problems for town centre shops as well as stores at Ventura Park, which were having to put in place special measures to combat her activities."

Councillor Ian Trenfield from Tamworth Borough Council said: "This is a further warning to those involved in antisocial behaviour that the council and police will not tolerate such activity. "
