Thousands of servicemen and women have been honoured at a memorial park in Staffordshire. Thousands of people were expected to attend the service on Sunday when a six-foot tall granite memorial was unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas.
The memorial honoured the people who did their National Service between 1939 and 1962.
The event was also a celebration of the first National Service Sunday after the Prime Minister endorsed the last Sunday of June each year as National Service Day in 2002.

The Forces favourite, Dame Vera Lynn, said: "Those who experienced National Service I am sure will never forget their experiences, good, bad or indifferent.
"Between 1939 and 1960 a great many National Service men and women served this country with distinction and pride and we have much to thank them for.
"I record my respect and admiration for those who served.''
In a message to the National Service Veterans Association the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, said: "The dedication of a special day, together with a memorial dedicated to National Servicemen, ensures this unique period of modern military history is not forgotten by future generations.
"It will also provide an excellent opportunity for National Service veterans to meet and pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country."
