Fatboy Slim's plans are moving on, the Hove DJ has said
A massive beach party to be staged by DJ Fatboy Slim in Brighton on New Year's Day is "99.9% of the way there".

The Hove performer, real name Norman Cook, gave an update on Monday on plans for the Big Beach Boutique 3.

He said: "It's still subject to licence, and I'm very superstitious, but we're 99.9% of the way there."

The DJ said that the police and coastguard had approved the plans which were backed by the council and "all the yes's were coming in".

He told BBC Southern Counties: "It was like it's 50% on, it's 60% on, it's 70% on, so it's been quite nice in the last few weeks.

"We had a yes from the council from the word go.

"And then we got a yes from the police and a yes from the coastguard.

"So all the yes's were coming in. It's been really exciting."

He has said that 20,000 people will be admitted to this New Year's event, which will be ticket-only and open to people who have a BN postcode, subject to a licence being agreed.

'Huge strain'

Concerns were raised after a beach party held by Fatboy Slim in July 2002 ended in chaos when 250,000 people turned up.

Brighton council leader Simon Burgess said the 2007 gig would be completely different - it would be "one tenth of the audience and in a contained area".

Sussex Police previously said the 2002 event put a "huge strain" on the city, which could not happen again.

But the force said it was not opposed to a party being held subject to strict restrictions.
