OAP's home threatened by car park
Bob Ennis with his daughter
Bob Ennis has lived in his house near Patcham for 33 years
A pensioner could be thrown out of the home where he has spent 33 years to make way for a huge car park.

Brighton and Hove City Council wants to build an 1,800-vehicle Park and Ride facility for the city in an attempt to help cut traffic levels and congestion.

Bob Ennis, who is in his 70s, joined protesters this week to voice his dismay over the plans.

An alternative plan is to use land on which the RSPCA walks its dogs, meaning the closure of its animal shelter.

'Better alternatives'

Mr Ennis lives in his council home near Patcham with his daughter, following the recent death of his wife.

Six other families could also see their homes demolished - all on the northern edge of the city.

Mr Ennis said the news had left him very distressed.

"I was expecting to spend the rest of my life in this house - I had no intention of moving.

"We're not opposed to park and ride as such, we're opposed to losing our home. We think there could be better alternatives than here," he said.

Councillors say traffic congestion in the city is now worse than ever before, especially during the summer months.

They are due to make a decision on the two sites next month.
