Gemma Smoker and Katherine Sharpe were studying hairdressing

Stephen Mohabir's two-year-old son was killed when a BMW crossed the central reservation of the A23 into the path of an oncoming Land Rover Freelander.

It happened at about 1630 BST when the main route north from Brighton was full of traffic heading away from the coast.

Five of the victims in Sunday's crash were travelling in the BMW.

Shock and sadness

They were named as Aaron Sharpe, 20, Mitch Treliving, 19, Katherine Sharpe, 18, Danielle Billingham 17, and Gemma Smoker, 17, all from the Crawley area.

The other victims were Kate and Toby Beasley, both 30, from Godalming in Surrey and toddler Marcus Mohabir, who were in the Land Rover Freelander.

On Wednesday, police released a photograph of two of the young friends who died.

Gemma Smoker and Katherine Sharpe both worked at Signatures Hair Studio in Three Bridges, near Crawley, and studied hairdressing together at Crawley College.

Staff at the college have expressed their shock and sadness at the deaths.

Mary Wiles, from the College, described them as "popular, confident, and keen to learn".
