New bedside service for patients
Hospital ward
Patients will be able to access the internet and emails
Patients at a Sussex hospital are to benefit from state-of-the-art bedside television and telephone services.

The Conquest Hospital, in Hastings, is the latest NHS Trust hospital in the UK to offer the innovative service.

From Thursday, patients will have their own telephone number and answer machine plus access to 16 television channels, radio, internet and emails.

Hospital director Andrew Stenton said the service would help make patients feel less anxious and lonely.

Staying in touch

"Patientline will provide a convenient and easy way of relieving tedium and staying in touch with family and friends," he said.

The initiative is part of a drive to improve and enhance patient services.

The hospital has 465 bedside terminals throughout its site, which could mean nurses answering up to 100 fewer telephone calls per day on a typical ward.

The service is fully managed by Patientline, which has a dedicated on-site team and round the clock support.
