Brighton currently play at Withdean, a converted athletics stadium |
Brighton football fans have launched another initiative in their campaign to get John Prescott to approve planning permission for a new stadium at Falmer. Campaigners are urging fans of clubs across the UK to send specially produced postcards to Labour MPs in support of the club's application.
They said they had received messages of support from across the country.
The Deputy Prime Minister is due to make a decision on whether the stadium can be built, after a public inquiry.
Brighton and Hove Albion's plans for a new ground at Falmer have been approved by the city council.
But opposition from some locals and environmental groups meant it had to be referred to the public inquiry, which lasted for several months last year.
Campaigners from the group Falmer For All are urging people across the UK to send the postcards to Labour MPs.
The postcard shows images of the city on the front and lists issues connected to the stadium application on the reverse.
'Only site available'
Tim Carder, chairman of the Albion Supporters' Association, said: "So far it's going very well.
"We've probably got replies from about 400 constituencies.
"This whole campaign is vital - if we don't get a stadium this club will die a death, whether it's slow or fast.
"There will be no future for the club with no stadium and the only site available is at Falmer."
Brighton and Hove Albion have been without a permanent home since the Goldstone Ground was sold in 1997.
After two seasons playing home games in Gillingham, the club returned to Brighton where for the last five years matches have been played at Withdean, an athletics stadium.
