Sally Boazman was sent a note with the lyrics to 'Help' by the Beatles |
A woman who stalked a BBC Radio travel presenter has been given a one-year conditional discharge. Hilary Reeves wrote to Radio 2's Sally Boazman, visited her at Broadcasting House and was seen loitering outside her Surrey home.
Woking Magistrates Court heard she thought Ms Boazman was sending her messages over the radio.
Reeves, of no fixed address, was also fined 50 for failing to surrender to bail and ordered to pay 150 prosecution costs.
Special bond
Magistrate Keith White told the 53-year-old mother he would have liked to send her for counselling but did not have the power to do so.
Reeves is still subject to a restraining order made when she was found guilty of harassment in July.
The order bans her from approaching Ms Boazman, who reads traffic reports on the Steve Wright and Johnnie Walker shows.
The court heard Reeves thought she had a "special bond" with the presenter.
Her first contact with Ms Boazman was when she sent a note to her home address, saying she needed to speak to her, the court heard.
'Felt physically sick'
It included the lyrics to the Beatles song Help, written inside a heart.
The court was also told Reeves approached Ms Boazman in the car park of BBC Broadcasting House in west London, and asked if they could go for a cup of tea.
Ms Boazman declined and asked security guards to escort the woman away.
Two months later Reeves was seen loitering outside Ms Boazman's home and tried to post another note, magistrates heard.
The court heard the presenter had said this made her feel "physically sick" and had made her realise she was being stalked.
David Smith, representing Reeves, said she had never meant any harm and had misinterpreted signals.
He said: "She is a very keen fan who has gone over the top."
