A "tough new stance" proved successful at the weekend in breaking up two raves, police have said. Officers closed the northbound carriageway of the A3 on Saturday night to stop people arriving at an illegal party in Cobham.
About 60 people who had gathered at the disused San Dominico restaurant on the A3 with sound equipment dispersed after the police arrived.
Officers were also called to reports of loud music and large numbers of people and vehicles at a field off Tilehurst Lane in Dorking on Friday.
'Major disturbance'
The 50 or 60 people present obeyed instructions to leave the area, Surrey Police said, and the rave was brought to a close.
Officers used the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act (1994) which gives police powers to tell people gathering for a rave to leave the land and to seize property.
Chief Inspector Keith Stribblehill said: "Raves cause a major disturbance to local people and will not be tolerated by Surrey Police.
"We will take action wherever possible to prevent or close down gatherings of this nature and have a tough new policy across the force on dealing with raves and outdoor parties."
