Home-made bomb charges denied
Police at Langley Green
Police evacuated 25 homes in the area
A 41-year-old Portuguese man appeared in court on Friday in connection with the alleged discovery of two home-made bombs at a flat near Gatwick Airport.

At Lewes Crown Court, Jose Pestana, speaking through an interpreter, denied two charges relating to the possession of explosive substances.

It is alleged Mr Pestana had two butane gas cylinders, pyrotechnic powder and fuses - with the intent to endanger life.

Mr Pestana, of Langley Parade, Langley Green, Crawley, West Sussex, was remanded in custody until his trial date, which was fixed for 22 September.

The charges relate to the discovery by police of two devices at a flat in Crawley in March.

The find led to the temporary evacuation of 25 neighbouring properties.
