Man faces home-made bomb charge
Police at Langley Green
Police evacuated 25 homes in the area
A 41-year-old Portuguese man has appeared in court charged with possessing explosives with intent to endanger life.

Jose Ivo Pestana, of Langley Green, Crawley, spoke only to confirm his name during the brief hearing at Lewes Crown Court.

The proceedings were translated for him by a Portuguese interpreter.

He is charged with an offence under the Explosive Substance Act after two home-made bombs were found in a flat near Gatwick on 18 March.

The discovery led to 25 homes being evacuated.

Mr Pestana was remanded in custody to appear at the court again on 6 June, when he is expected to enter a plea.
