A motorist who fell asleep at the wheel and caused a crash which killed his girlfriend and two friends has been jailed for four years. Matthew Mather, 24, was driving on the M1 in Derbyshire when the car left the carriageway and hit a road sign.
His girlfriend Kerry Smith, 21, along with friends Ruth Revell, 22, and Luke Richardson, 19, died in the crash.
Mather, of Dursley Court, Auckley, Doncaster, admitted three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
The four had been returning from Birmingham, where they had spent the previous evening out clubbing, when the crash happened between Balborough and Bolsover in February 2006.
