Catcliffe residents voiced concerns to the authorities |
An emergency meeting of residents in one of South Yorkshire's worst flood-hit areas has been critical of the reaction of the authorities. People in Catcliffe asked for the meeting so they could raise concerns about the response to the floods.
Residents met representatives of the council, the Environment Agency and the rescue services. But many left saying they had been "fobbed off".
Rotherham council leader Roger Stone said he could understand their anger.
One resident described the official answers as "half-hearted."
Another asked what help house owners who wanted to sell their "unsellable" homes would get.
Rotherham Council told residents about the meeting by putting flyers through letter boxes, even though many have been forced from their homes.
The council said it had done all it could to advertise the event and hoped word would get around.
Similar meetings will be held at Whiston Junior and Infants School at 1900 BST on Thursday, and at Dinnington Resource Centre at 1800 BST on Friday.
