Police investigate council scheme
The police have been called in to investigate a community project, once run by the Mayor of Doncaster.

The Glass Park wildlife haven in Kirk Sandall cost hundreds of thousands of pounds of public money but has been criticised by a government watchdog.

The Audit Commission has already criticised the high administration costs of the project, but no individuals have been singled out.

The police will look at all aspects of the wildlife project.

This will include exactly what role Mayor Martin Winter played.

He was listed as a director of the project in a government document in 2000, when he was a councillor and before he was elected Mayor.

Last month, Doncaster council held an emergency meeting after being criticised by the Audit Commission.

A council spokesman said it had implemented a number of the report's recommendations.
