Doncaster council is to hold an emergency meeting after a government watchdog criticised a community project once run by the elected mayor. The Glass Park wildlife haven in Kirk Sandall was developed with hundreds of thousands of pounds of public money.
An Audit Commission report to the council last year highlighted poor management and financial control.
The council is to meet next Friday to discuss the scheme and quiz Mayor Martin Winter about his role in it.
In 2000, Mr Winter - then just a councillor - was listed as the Glass Park project director in a government document.
Mayor Winter has not commented on the report or the project.
An Audit Commission spokesman said: "This report was produced for the council in November 2004 and in the course of our normal activity with the council we will be checking on the progress in implementing our recommendations."
A council spokesman said it had already implemented a number of the report's recommendations.
