Hero's story told on underground
It is hoped Sgt McKay's story will inspire young people
The tale of a Victoria Cross holder from Rotherham is among a series of posters put up on London tube stations.

Sgt Ian McKay was the last person to be awarded the Victoria Cross when he was given it posthumously in 1982, following the Falklands conflict.

His story is depicted with other inspirational tales in the run up to Remembrance Sunday.

His mother Freda McKay said she hoped it would inspire people to remember those who died in service.

She said: "Young men and women are in conflict in Iraq, doing the same kind of job that Ian was doing.

"It is a job they do very, very well and I just hope people will think of them and of those who went before and showed them the way."

Sgt McKay was honoured for leading an attack against the enemy which saved the position of his troops.

He was killed at the moment of victory.
