Sweet reward for model drinkers

The packaging warns of fines for being drunk and disorderly.
Models armed with packets of mints are targeting West Yorkshire's pubs and clubs in an effort to keep drinkers sweet on their nights out.

The special packaging warns of the consequences of binge drinking and the fines in place for being drunk and disorderly.

Male and female models are targeting city centres throughout the region.

Assistant Chief Constable Grahame Maxwell said the idea was to "encourage people to drink more responsibly".

He warned that excessive drinking can lead to trouble.

"We just want people to ask themselves, 'is it worth it?'," he said.

"By distributing information about the penalties and problems associated with heavy drinking, we hope to make our town and city centres safer environments for people wanting to enjoy a safe and hassle-free night out."

The models will be accompanied by special constables as they distribute the mints.

The idea is part of the force's Know Your Limit campaign which is aimed at reducing alcohol-related crime.
