Public have say on stadium plans

New plans for the site would see costs rise to 32m
Thousands of people have been voicing their opinions on plans to change Doncaster's 20m planned community stadium development.

New proposals include boosting capacity to 15,000, a new athletics track and introducing conference facilities.

More than 2,000 people have contacted the Mayor Martin Winter with views on the larger scale development, which is expected to cost 32m.

The views would help guide councillors on the way forward, Mr Winter said.

"The response so far is overwhelming and I am thrilled that the people of Doncaster have answered my call to give their opinion on the Lakeside Sport Complex," he said.

Doncaster Council approved funding for the original plans for the development in November 2003.

Mayor Winter said the additional funding could be met through land sales.

Doncaster Rovers, the Doncaster Belles and the Doncaster Dragons rugby league side will all share the new stadium, when it is built in 2006.
