Attempts to find a buyer for Hatfield Colliery near Doncaster have failed and the 200 miners face redundancy. Coalpower, which owns the pit, went into administration in December and accountancy firm Ernst & Young was put in charge.
Staff at Hatfield lobbied MPs earlier this week in a bid to save the mine.
A deal was agreed to keep it open for a few more weeks in case a buyer comes forward. But some miners will be made redundant in the next few days.
