A prescription signed by the murderer Dr Hawley Harvey Crippen has sold for �293 at auction in Bath. The note was written in November 1904 and was sold with a follow-up letter written by Crippen's typist and mistress Ethel Le Neve.
It was bought by an anonymous bidder who did not attend the auction.
In 1910, Dr Crippen murdered his wife Cora and buried her headless remains in his cellar before attempting to flee to Canada with Le Neve on the SS Montrose.
He was caught after the ship's captain sent a telegraph message informing the vessel's owners he believed Crippen was on board.
Chief Inspector Walter Dew, of Scotland Yard, chased Crippen and Le Neve across the Atlantic and arrested them before they could land in Montreal.
Crippen was found guilty of murder and was hanged at Pentonville Prison.
Le Neve was cleared of complicity in the killing.
The prescription signed by Crippen comes from the Drouet's Institute for the Deaf, London, where he met Le Neve.
