A prescription and letter signed by notorious murderer Dr Hawley Harvey Crippen is to be auctioned. In 1910, Dr Crippen murdered his wife Cora and buried her headless remains in his cellar before attempting to flee to Canada with his mistress.
He was caught when the ship's captain recognised him and sent a telegraph to the police. Officers chased both across the Atlantic and arrested them.
The items are expected to fetch around �250 when they go under the hammer.
The note, written in November 1904, is due to be sold - together with a follow-up letter written by his typist and mistress Ethel Le Neve - by Bonhams Auctioneers in Bath later this month.
Crippen was found guilty of murder and was hanged at Pentonville Prison. Le Neve was cleared of complicity in the killing.
The prescription signed by Crippen comes from Drouet's Institute for the Deaf, London, where he met Le Neve.
A spokeswoman for Bonhams said: "Items relating to Crippen come up more often than for some other killers, and there is quite a good market for them.
"There is also a lot of interest in Crippen because of the transatlantic connection."
