Swan dies in reservoir shooting
Swan
Police are appealing for witnesses
A swan has been shot and killed at a Somerset reservoir.

The animal was taken to an RSPCA sanctuary near Taunton, where it died after being shot on the Axbridge side of the Cheddar Reservoir.

Swans are a protected species and shooting one is a criminal offence, police say.

Pc Pete Wills said: "Cruelty to animals is an on-going problem, but this incident has highlighted our desire to catch and prosecute those involved."

He added: "It is important we work with the RSPCA and use the knowledge of their inspectors during prosecutions."
