Police probe Thames swan killings
Swan
Four swans have been killed and a cygnet blinded in one eye
Police are investigating a spate of killings of swans and cygnets on the banks of the River Thames.

Three adult swans and one cygnet have been killed, while another cygnet has been blinded in one eye in the last two weeks in Windsor, Berkshire.

Another two adults have been injured, one of which was apparently shot with an air rifle. The incidents took place between Romney Lock and Jacobs Island.

Swan Lifeline, a local bird protection group, is helping the police inquiry.

Pc Denise Winter said: "These are vicious and unprovoked attacks on defenceless animals which must stop immediately.

"I believe a small number of local youths are responsible for this cruel behaviour and I would urge anyone with information to contact the police."
