Ban on street drinking in Bath
Police confiscating alcohol
Some areas outside bars and cafes are excluded from the ban
Drinking on the streets of Bath will be banned from Friday.

The ban allows the police to stop people drinking in the street, and to confiscate alcohol.

It will be a criminal offence to not comply without a reasonable excuse. B&NES council - which made the ruling - wants to stop anti-social behaviour.

The ruling applies to all public areas excluding seating outside bars or cafes where people have bought alcohol on the premises, or outdoor licensed events.

Councillor Vic Pritchard said: "Bath & North East Somerset Council knows that alcohol-related anti-social behaviour is a concern to residents, visitors and businesses to Bath.

"We don't want to stop people enjoying a quiet drink with family or friends however people should be able to enjoy their time in the city without being harassed and intimidated."
