Ben and Robert White are banned from three estates in Weston |
A teenager, banned from most of his home town for a string of offences, has avoided jail despite admitting his part in a "frenzied attack". Ben White and his younger brother Robert are forbidden from entering large areas of Weston-super-Mare under an Anti-Social Behaviour Order.
On Wednesday at Bristol Crown Court, 19-year-old Ben was given a 12-month rehabilitation order.
The Recorder of Bristol, Tom Crowther QC, told White it was his last chance.
White had pleaded guilty to one count of theft, one of actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault, interfering with a vehicle and breaches of his ASBO.
Rehabilitation course
In the most serious incident in August 2003, White took part in an attack on three men as they left an event in Weston.
One was punched in the head and another was knocked to the ground, kicked, punched and stamped on.
Ruth Armstrong, defending, said White, who has been remanded in custody since October, had long-term aims and wanted to set up his own business.
The judge warned White of a future in jail if he continued to "tyrannise anyone who crossed him".
He said the sentence was a "last opportunity to be helped" and he accepted that he genuinely "expressed himself as regretful" for the offences.
A condition of the order is that White completes a 12-week course at a centre for adolescent rehabilitation to learn to "behave, have feelings for and respect for others".
