Oxfam provides festival stewards in return for donations

Over the past ten years a total of more than �1m raised from the festival held at Pilton has been given to Oxfam.

Three years ago Mr Eavis travelled to Ghana to see how donations from the event had been used.

On Saturday he set off for Nairobi from Bristol International Airport to visit education projects and an irrigation scheme.

His tour will include seeing how the construction of reservoirs for nomadic people is providing life-saving water throughout the dry season.

He will also visit a shanty town in Kibera to learn how increased educational opportunities are helping people to break the cycle of poverty.

A mobile health service is also assisting the local community.

Mr Eavis said: "Without the stewarding Oxfam provides the festival would never run as smoothly.

"It is great to be able to give something back and a privilege to go to Kenya to see how the money is used to help make a difference."
