Warning over 'significant' floods
Flooding at Cressage, near Much Wenlock, looking towards the Wrekin
More heavy rain is forecast for the coming days
Parts of Shropshire could face "significant flooding" if more heavy rain falls over the weekend, the Environment Agency has warned.

Further wet weather over Wales could cause a sharp rise in levels downstream on the River Severn.

Flood warnings remain in place for stretches of the Severn from the Shropshire/Wales border to Shrawardine and from Buildwas to Coalport.

Defences are up in Frankwell, Shrewsbury, and the car park is shut.

Ground saturated

Flood barriers have also been put up at the Wharfage in Ironbridge to protect homes and businesses.

Dave Throup, from the Environment Agency, said: "The ground is still saturated, most of the flood storage areas are either full or getting full, so there isn't many places for the water.

"Very heavy and intense rainfall will lead to some significant flooding, but obviously the question is how much rain we're going to get."

Sydney Avenue and Gravel Hill Lane in Shrewsbury are shut because of flooding.

The Wharfage in Ironbridge is also closed to traffic, but the shops remain open.
