MP's pledge over defence job loss
Mark Pritchard
Mr Pritchard wants a full inquiry on cross-border issues
A Shropshire MP has pledged to question the "flawed logic" of moving defence jobs to Wales.

Mark Pritchard, Conservative MP for the Wrekin, has announced he is to join the Welsh Affairs Select Committee and plans to highlight local issues.

In January Defence Secretary Des Browne said RAF St Athan in south Wales had won a 16bn training contract ahead of RAF Cosford in Shropshire.

The new armed forces tri-service centre is expected to create about 5,000 jobs.

Push for inquiry

"I am delighted to have been placed on the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, which will allow me to highlight the siphoning off of Shropshire's scarce health resources to prop up health shortages in Wales," he said.

"I will also be able to question the flawed logic of moving defence training jobs from RAF Cosford to RAF St Athan in Wales."

He said he would also push for a full inquiry on cross-border issues which directly affect Shropshire taxpayers.

Mr Pritchard already serves on the Work & Pensions Select Committee.

Earlier this month, the MP voiced his concerns that Christian traditions were being overlooked.
