Formula One champion Sir Jackie Stewart has opened a dyslexia unit at a Shropshire college. One in 10 people in the UK have the condition to some degree, including the three-times champion.
As vice president of the British Dyslexia Association, Sir Jackie opened the unit at Ellesmere College.
He is calling for similar facilities with teachers specialising in dyslexia in all state schools, as well as more training for teachers.
Sir Jackie was not diagnosed until he was 42 years old.
"The ultimate goal is to have a dyslexia specialist teacher in every single school in the UK and I think that is achievable," he told BBC News.
"It's pathetic the slowness - even now the teacher training colleges do not include the education of early recognition of children with learning disabilities.
"It's just not there, never mind teachers around in Britain currently, the new teachers are not being helped in any way.
"I am basically trying to fight that with the government just now."
