Welcome signs have been put up around a Shropshire town to commemorate the link with one of its famous sons. The Welcome to Shrewsbury signs have been put up around the town's boundary to highlight its importance as Charles Darwin's birthplace.
They also highlight the month-long Darwin Festival with a number of lectures, musical and theatrical events planned throughout February.
The naturalist was born in Shrewsbury on 12 February 1809.
He spent his early years in Shrewsbury and returned to the town following the Voyage of the Beagle - his trip around the world between 1831-36.
