Parking zones drawn up for town
Residents will have to pay up to 100 a year to park outside their homes as permits are introduced in a Shropshire town for the first time.

Work is to begin next week to mark out bays for the controlled parking zone (CPZ) in Ludlow's historic old town.

An increase in the number of tourists to the town means local people have trouble parking, according to Shropshire County Council.

In consultation, 94% of people said there were parking problems.

Work is expected to be completed by mid-August and the CPZ will be enforced by West Mercia Police with the introduction of an additional traffic warden in the town.

Councillor John Everall said: "Parking in the centre of Ludlow for local residents has been a problem for many years.

"We very much welcome tourists to the town, but the increasing number of cars using on-street parking has meant difficulties for our residents."
