Two hurt in River Severn rescue
Two men have been taken to hospital after a river rescue in Shrewsbury.

The emergency services were called to a stretch of the River Severn at Monkmoor, where an 88-year-old man was in the water.

Two other men were trying to get him out. Ambulance crews took the man in the river and one of his rescuers to hospital.

Sgt Dave Grindley said: "The elderly man that had fallen into the river is still in hospital under observation."

He said that when officers arrived they found the man in the water was being supported by his friend and a member of the public who had come to his assistance.

Officers will be speaking to the pensioner to find out how he came to be in the river.
