Four motorists were arrested and four others had their cars seized for no insurance in a police clampdown. Officers carried out road safety checks with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) in the Hadley area of Telford on Wednesday.
The CCTV camera technology reads number plates and a computer then flags up vehicles which are suspicious.
One man was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified, and three were held on suspicion of theft.
Four motorists had their vehicles seized for driving with no insurance and also received a �200 fixed penalty notice.
Crime prevention tool
Two drivers were issued with fixed penalty notices for driving without tax, two for not wearing a seatbelt, seven for driving while using a mobile phone and two for number plate offences.
Four others were reported for driving without the relevant documents.
A police spokeswoman said that the checks were extremely successful and said that more checks would be carried out in the future.
She said: "We know that most criminals use unregistered and unlicensed vehicles. To be able to identify these vehicles instantly is an incredible crime detection and crime prevention tool."
