Thousands took part in the protest in Bridgnorth |
Thousands of people have taken to the streets of a Shropshire town to protest against the possible closure of a community hospital. It is estimated between three and four thousand people took part in the march in Bridgnorth in one of the biggest protests ever held in the town.
There were also demonstrations in Whitchurch and Ludlow in an attempt to save two other community hospitals.
The National Health Service in Shropshire is facing a deficit of 55m.
Chair of the Friends of Whitchurch Hospital, Margaret Hiles, says if they lose their hospital, the elderly cannot afford to travel elsewhere.
Clive Walsh, from Shropshire Primary Care Trust, said it was aware of the distances that people would have to travel.
